Blueberry by Highbrow Vapor

Disclaimer: This E-liquid was provided to me free of charge for the purpose of conducting a review. This fact notwithstanding, I will, as best I'm able, provide an honest, accurate and unbiased assessment of this product. Portions of this review have been quoted from my review of Highbrow Vapor's Cheesecake Torte. http://vapour-taster.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/cheesecake-torte-by-highbrow-vapor.html Quoted portions are in italics.

Blueberry! (That, my friends, is the introduction to this review.)

Highbrow Vapor http://highbrowvapor.com/ is a family owned and operated business in the United States who craft their e-liquids to order from the highest quality ingredients and take great pride in the authenticity of their flavours. They "use only 100% USP kosher food grade PG/VG and (their) nicotine is 99.9% pure pharmaceutical grade. (Their) juice is produced using aseptic technique by professionals using only ingredients deemed generally safe for human consumption by the FDA." http://highbrowvapor.com/ Their catalogue of liquids comprises forty five distinct flavours divided by the following categories: desserts, drinks, fruits and tobaccos.

Blueberry (and indeed, each of the liquids in the Highbrow catalogue) is available in 10 ($7.50) and 30ml ($15.00) bottles at nicotine strengths of 0, 6, 12, 18, 24 and 36mg and at 100% PG or 100% VG with the option for the customer to specify a PG/VG ratio of their own. The website also offers the option to further tailor the flavour of the liquid to suit the customer's preferences. They also make suggestions for flavours that would mix well with the juice.

The 10ml bottle is a clear, reasonably squeezable plastic with a white, childproof screw-top cap, underneath which is a standard dropper. The label features a sepia toned illustration of a gentleman in Regency (?) era clothing and sporting an extremely tall top hat. Information on the bottle includes the name of the company, the name of the liquid, liquid contents in ml, nicotine strength in mg, PG/VG content (in this case denoted as "mix"), the manufacturing date, a toxicity warning in the form of a skull and crossbones graphic, an advisory that the product "may contain nicotine" and a request to "keep out of the reach of children". The liquid is a clear, very desaturated Stil de Grain yellow http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stil_de_grain_yellow and has the texture and consistency of a light cooking oil. The fragrance issuing from the bottle is of an indistinct berry.

As I inhale, I notice that there's an immediate recognition of the flavour of blueberry. There's the sensation of sweetness along the forward edge of my tongue, but it's gentle... not overly sweet. Just right. Taking a small breath of fresh air at the apex of the inhalation, to ease the vapour into my lungs amplifies the flavour somewhat and as I exhale the flavour of blueberry matures further. The aftertaste prolongs the pleasure of this gentle flavour for minutes afterwards. Please don't mistake my use of the word "gentle" for insipid. The flavour of this juice is anything but; it's full bodied, undiluted blueberry in vaporous form. There is a very mild anaesthetic quality to the vapour; the tip of my tongue is slightly numbed.

This is simple, unpretentious (unlike my prose :)), unadorned flavour that tastes like the real thing; there's no sense of artificiality about it. The vapour is smooth and has a luxurious feel in the mouth. I'm all about the flavour and throat hit holds no appeal for me and as there's no throat hit to speak of, in this instance, I'm more than happy. Vapour production is generous. I noticed several minutes after my last draw, when I got up to go into the kitchen, that there were still wispy veils of vapour hanging in the air.

Any craftsman will tell you that the mark of a master craftsman is the ability to do the simplest things exceedingly well. The test of a great chef is how well s/he can cook an omelette. The test of a great draughtsman/woman is how well they can draw a teacup on a saucer. Likewise, the test of a great e-liquid mixer is how well they can turn a simple flavour like Blueberry into a vape that sings in your mouth. Having now tasted three of Highbrow Vapor's e-liquids, I would suggest that this is a family run business that has amongst them a master craftswo/man. I can't offer any higher praise than that. Any money that you spend on Highbrow Vapor e-liquids will be money very well spent and your taste buds will thank you for it.
